Ayre's world-famous Irrational But Efficacious disc has aided in optimizing system performance, and room calibration for many years, and thousands of systems of all sizes. Now this powerful reference tool is available in digital format, and ready to ship to your doorstep in your very own thumb drive, reminiscent of Ayre's well regarded little Myrtle blocks, straight from the Brandon, Oregon coast!
This thumb drive can be inserted into a computer, for digital download of the files, for playback right off the computer to your DAC with a USB connection. Or you could simply stick this drive into your Ayre Acoustics network streaming port, and it will automatically label itself as "Ayre Server," allowing you to play the contents straight to the DAC circuitry, with the help of a third-party app, such as MConnect.
At 32 Gigs on USB 3.0, you can also drop other downloaded music files onto it to play music directly into your Ayre Acoustics network streaming circuitry. When inserted into the Ayre "NET1" or "NET2" network circuit, the drive will automatically label itself as the "Device Name* Server," such as "QX-8 Server."
The "Short Glide Tone," and "Full Glide Tone" are full range sine wave sweeps, that will get your system sounding its best, by making both the electronics, and your speaker drivers reproduce frequencies throughout the range of human hearing. Picture a runner getting in a good stretch before a race! There are electrical and physical benefits to it!
The rest of the tracks are useful tools for analyzing your system's response to the room for fine tuning. For instance, when paired with a spectrum analyzer, the "Pink Noise" and "Brown Noise" tracks can be helpful for analyzing frequency response to the room for determining what sort of room treatment may be needed.
I played 'So Do I' on the system... I then played the Ayre disc's one-minute 'Short Guide Tone,' then played 'So Do I' again. I have not had a good night's sleep since. I am flabbergasted. I heard a lower noise floor. Things were quieter and smoother: less metallic/electronicky, with better microdynamics, and just overall more listenable. I had a greater sense of the flexion of the pick in the attacks on guitar strings... Everyone I have played this demo for has been floored, and three have since bought the CD.
