"The Rebel" is without a doubt one of the most sought after Black Sabbath songs ever recorded. It was performed during a transitional period, being reported that the band decided upon changing their name from Earth to Black Sabbath while they were on route to The Star Club in Hamburg in August 1969. In fact, their final gig as Earth was performed in Kilcaldy, Scotland just one day after recording "The Rebel". "When I Came Down" was recorded at Zella Studios in Birmingham in October 1969. The song is short but boasts strong vocals. "Black Sabbath", "The Wizard" and "Evil Woman" are three rare studio outtakes/alternates from the band's debut studio album recording sesions. "Black Sabbath" is widely considered to be the first doom metal song. "Early One Morning", "Behind The Wall Of Sleep", "N.I.B." and "Wicked World" comprise a selection of tracks from the group's only documented live recorded performance, at Rugman's Youth Cllub, Dumfries, Scotland, on November 16, 1969. The original tape was recorded on a Grundig reel to reel at 3 and 3/4 ips."Early One Morning" is a song from blues singer Elmore James. "Behind The Wall Of Sleep" and "N.I.B." show off guitarist Tony Iommi's evolving compositional skills in full effect. It is one of the landmark songs of heavy metal music, both in terms of its minor-key sound and in the establishment of the sub-genre of dark-side related themes. "Wicked World" reveals the strong psychedlic influences Sabbath carried during the '70s.
