Limited Edition, Audiophile Remastering, High Quality 180 Gram Vinyl! Pressed at Pallas in Germany!
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Bob Brookmeyer first gained widespread public attention as a member of Gerry Mulligan's quartet from 1954 to 1957. He later worked with Jimmy Giuffre before rejoining Mulligan's Concert Jazz Band.
Brookmeyer has also worked with Clark Terry and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra in the 1960s.
The trombonist Bob Brookmeyer is joined by many jazz musicians for this recording including tenor sax players Al Cohn and Paul Quinichette, guitarist Jim Hall. The album also introduced Big Miller on vocals who came to be chiefly associated with the Kansas City blues style. Miller won fame as a 'blues shouter', a vocalist whose vocal force was powerful enough that it could be heard in an auditorium with a big band behind it even without a microphone.
"Cool jazz meets swing on this valuable but long out of print LP. Valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer, tenors Al Cohn and Paul Quinichette, pianist Nat Pierce, guitarist Jim Hall, bassist Addison Farmer and drummer Osie Johnson perform four songs associated with the late '30s Count Basie Orchestra plus a couple of numbers ("A Blues" and "Travlin' Light") that are sung by the underrated vocalist Big Miller who was making his recording debut at the time." - Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
