Reissue, originally released in 1957. Modern Jazz Perspective is a highly swinging straight-ahead bop infused album by two great modernists of the '50s. Recorded and first released on Columbia in 1957 this album sees trumpeter Donald Byrd and alto sax player Gigi Gryce teaming up and leading a group of strong partners such as Jimmy Cleveland (trombone), Julius Watkins (French horn), Sahib Shihab (baritone sax), Wynton Kelly (piano), Wendell Marshall (bass), and Art Taylor (drums), plus the guest appearance of Jackie Paris on banjo on one track and vocals on two others.
