One of the true enjoyments in jazz can be the combination of musicians playing together. Here, another great trio who nobody had imagined - even the players themselves - comes up. Pianist and leader Don Friedman teams with bassist John Patitucci and drummer Omar Hakim. Before the recording date, these three musicians had never played together, and added to that was the fact that they were meeting for the first time in a recording studio. However, unpredictability became a positive force to them. They only discussed how they would play the beginning and ending of a song. The fact that they allowed the music to develop in a natural unrehearsed way made the performances really spontaneous.
