Features the Band's First #1 Hit Single "We're An American Band!"
We're An American Band is Grand Funk Railroad's seventh studio album and was released in July of 1973 by Capitol Records. It was produced by Todd Rundgren and was the first album to feature Craig Frost as a full-fledged band member.
Grand Funk toured to packed arenas worldwide in the '70s. David Fricke of Rolling Stone Magazine said, "You cannot talk about rock in the 1970's without talking about Grand Funk Railroad". In 1971, Grand Funk broke The Beatles' Shea Stadium attendance record by selling out in just 72 hours.
We're An American Band climbed to #2 on the album charts, the highest position of all their albums and a second single, "Walk Like a Man" also reached the Top 20.
"Sonically, the record was sharp and detailed and the band's playing was far tighter and more accomplished. Most important, someone, whether the band or Rundgren, decided that gruff-voiced drummer Don Brewer should be employed as a lead singer as often as guitarist Mark Farner. Brewer also contributed more as a songwriter, and the results were immediate." -William Ruhlmann, allmusic.com
SHM-SACD (Super High Material SACD) is the ultimate Super Audio CD that utilizes the materials and technologies that were developed for the SHM-CD to further enhance the audio-resolution. These discs are made with polycarbonate developed for the screen of the liquid crystal display. As it has a higher transparency, players can read the signal more faithfully. Also, it excels in fluidity, which enables you to cast a more accurate pit. What works wonders for a low resolution format such as CD should offer even greater sonic improvements in a real high resolution format such as SACD.
