2021 Grammy Award Nominee:
• Album Of The Year: Women In Music Pt. III
• Best Rock Performance: "The Steps"
The band's third record is produced by Danielle Haim, Rostam and Ariel Rechtshaid, and features the trilogy of singles -- "Summer Girl," "Now I'm In It" and "Hallelujah" -- which preceded the album release plus "The Steps".
"The Steps" takes the sunny HAIM sound and tousles it like a flop of thick hair that ain't seen the shower in a few days. Electric guitars squeal and wobble over a ramshackle acoustic strum and garage drums -- the texture's rough and messy, but loved and lived-in.
The third album from the trio is far and away their best. Intimate, multidimensional, and wide-ranging, the songwriting shines with personality and a great curiosity for melody and style.
Though outwardly carefree, WIMPIII finds HAIM exploring darker and more serious matters than ever before, which is one reason why it's their most complete and forward-thinking release yet. Many of these songs find Danielle, Alana and Este flat on their backs, but it's never long before they've returned to their default position: upright, strutting confidently through the streets of L.A. and life itself.
With musical influences that span the FM dial, there are sleepless nights and depressive days, dreams of leaving a lover and nightmares of settling into stability. Relationships are tested - 'just calling to see if you're up' - in the middle of the night, and it's glimmers of moonlight through a window, not the daylight's harsh rays, that ultimately illuminate the complexities of partnership.
Vivid pop satisfaction and razor-sharp songwriting are packed into every square inch of Women in Music Pt. III, the pointedly titled third album from L.A.'s Haim sisters. Here, you'll find Haim's trademark sonic throwbacks to Fleetwood Mac and Nineties R&B, but weirder and more daring than they've ever been before, thanks to Rostam's innovative production and Haim's ability to seemingly master any musical instrument or pop-rock style.
