Historic performance newly discovered!
Recorded live in 1963 at the famous New Latin Quarter nightclub in Tokyo!
Never Before Heard Live Recording of Helen Merrill at the New Latin Quarter, an "accidentally" discovered vintage performance! The New Latin Quarter hosted an array of legendary artists and was a who's who of American and UK Jazz and Pop Legends. From 1959-1989 the famed nightclub saw Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Connie Francis, Helen Merrill, Ray Charles, James Brown, The Supremes and many others.
"Over 300 live recordings from artists who appeared at New Latin Quarter have been languishing for almost 50 years, says Shintaro Yamamoto, Chairman of newly formed New Latin Quarter (NLQ) Entertainment. The new alliance of NLQ Entertainment, Kosaido Akatsuki Corporation of Japan, Parteneri-Whitehouse Alliance Japan and worldwide publishing organization National League Music has changed all that."
Often compared to Billie Holiday, Helen Merrill is considered one of the top Jazz Vocalists of her time. She has recorded over 40+ albums including her hit album "Whats New", considered by many in Japan as the best jazz album in the last 50 years.
