Ingram Washington sings 10 songs from the American Songbook including "Embraceable You" and "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face".

Born in Detroit, Michigan, on October 12, 1940, Ingram Washington picked up his singing skills by listening to jazz at the early age of about 10 years old. His mother Yvonne (better known as "Princess" back in the '30s and '40s) was also a singer and performer and introduced him to many great artists such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Billy Eckstine (that's when Eckstine was mainly blowing trumpet with his big band), and also a lot of not so well known local musicians working the Detroit night clubs in those days. "Those were the gold old days," says Ingram. "I was hardly tall enough to see over the edge of the stage, but my mother would take me everywhere, and I loved it."

Ingram has worked alongside well-known artists such as Nina Simone, Ray Charles, Scott Hamilton, Teddy Edwards and life-long friend Spanky Wilson, who is more like a sister. With this LP, Ingram wants to try bringing back the true natural sound of the early ballads and evergreens from the "crooners" of the mid-'30s and '40s.

"I don't want it to sound like every other recording that you might hear these days, and my first attempt may not suit everyone's ears, but for those of you who miss listening to soft relaxing love songs - turn down the lights, pour your favorite drink, pull up a chair, kick off your shoes, and join me."
