James Browns Funky People Vol 1 is part of a brilliant series that highlights the best of the various musicians and artists who worked with Mr. Superbad himself. Artists like the awe-inspiring JBs, whose "Gimme Some More" (No.11 RnB, No.67 Pop US), "Pass The Peas" (No.29 RnB, No.95 Pop US), "Givin Up Food For Funk", "Hot Pants Road" and "Damn Right, I Am Somebody" pretty much laid the boilerplate for funk in the early 70s. Likewise the mighty Maceo and the Macs whose "Party" (No.24 RnB, No.71 Pop US) similarly laid down the funk gauntlet.
