Limited Edition Coral Vinyl LP!
First Time on Vinyl in Decades!
Mastered by Joe Reagoso from the Original Atlantic Records Tapes!

Jean-Luc Ponty is one of the world's finest musicians as well as one of the greatest living legends in all things Jazz, Prog Rock, Fusion, and Classical Music. He has been making award winning music for over six decades, and continues to be a force on both stage and in the recording field.

1977 was another banner year for the artist, as he produced and recorded what would become one of the biggest albums of his career, and one of the biggest progressive fusion albums of the seventies with Enigmatic Ocean. Featuring a fine array of powerful tracks like "Mirage," "Overture," and "The Trans-Love Express" as well as the amazing four-part suite "Enigmatic Ocean," this album truly was a watershed moment for the artist and for the music industry.

Featuring the violinist with some of his greatest allies like the late great Allan Holdsworh on guitar, Mahavishnu Orchestra's bassist Ralphe Johnson, superstar drummer Steve Smith from Journey, Genesis and Phil Collins guitarist extraordinaire Daryl Stuermer, plus the late great Allan Zavod on keyboards. This unit was an incredible force as you can tell from the opening riffs of Side One's "Overture."

The album would go on to be a Number One Jazz LP and a Top 30 Pop/Rock LP in 1977, and would further Jean-Luc Ponty's career which continues to flourish to this day.

Friday Music is very pleased to announce for the first time on vinyl in decades, the brilliance of Jean-Luc Ponty's masterpiece Enigmatic Ocean. Produced by the legend himself, and mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso (Weather Report/Mahavishnu Orchestra/Billy Cobham/Tommy Bolin) from the Atlantic Records recordings.

For a very limited time, this masterwork will be pressed on stunning Coral Colored Vinyl, and will be featured in its original album cover art, not presented in the LP format for decades.

Welcome back the brilliance of Enigmatic Ocean by Jean-Luc Ponty.....from your friends at Friday Music.

Consistently imaginative, Enigmatic Ocean is one of Jean-Luc Ponty's finest accomplishments. The French violinist recorded his share of fusion gems during the 1970s, and this album is at the top of the list. Often aggressive but sometimes reflective and moody, this LP is as unpredictable as it is adventurous. Ponty has plenty of room to stretch out, let loose, and blow, and electric guitarists Allan Holdsworth and Daryl Stuermer contribute some inspired solos as well. Also quite impressive is the insightful and passionate drumming of Steve Smith, who went on to lead the superb fusion band Vital Information. Ponty takes one risk after another, and all of them pay off beautifully.
