Johnnie Taylor replaced Sam Cooke in the group The Soul Stirrers. While he was no novice in the '60s upon his arrival at Stax, it took the industry by surprise when his 1968 album "Who's Making Love" became a top-selling album.

Johnnie Taylor was dubbed 'The Philosopher of Soul' by Stax. Championed by Sam Cooke, Taylor's voice was smooth as cream with a hint of funk that would sneak up on his listener.
