Originally released November 1958, Johnny Cash's third album was released on the Columbia label following his departure from Sun Records.

In 1958, the album reached number 19 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart. The single "Don't Take Your Guns To Town" from the album reached #1 in 1959 on the Country Singles chart and "Frankie's Man, Johnny" reached #9 the same year on the same chart.
