Newly Remastered for Blue Note 75th Anniversary Vinyl!
Recorded at Van Gelder Studio in 1963, The Sidewinder by jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan was a runaway hit that reached number 25 on the Billboard chart. The title track, now a jazz standard, is one of the most influential recordings in soul jazz. All five tracks were written by Morgan and the album features respected tenor sax player Joe Henderson.
Newly-remastered for vinyl as part of an overall Blue Note 75th anniversary vinyl reissue campaign spearheaded by current Blue Note Records President, Don Was.
"Carried by its almost impossibly infectious eponymous opening track, The Sidewinder helped foreshadow the sounds of boogaloo and soul-jazz with its healthy R&B influence and Latin tinge. While the rest of the album retreats to a more conventional hard bop sound, Morgan's compositions are forward-thinking and universally solid...the group works together seamlessly to create an album that crackles with energy while maintaining a stylish flow." -Stacia Proefrock, allmusic.com
