Soy Como Quiero Ser is Luis Miguel's fifth studio album and his first album to be released by Warner Music Latina. Laura Branigan and Rocío Banquells appear on two of the album's tracks as backup vocals. The majority of the songs included are Spanish-language adaptations of popular songs from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. In 1988, Soy Como Quiero Ser received a nomination for a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Performance at the 30th Annual Grammy Awards, which ultimately went to Un Hombre Solo by Julio Iglesias.
