Melody Gardot and Philippe Powell breathe a new life into the classic piano and voice format with their jazz record, Entre eux deux. Recorded in Paris in December 2021, the album features "This Foolish Heart Could Love You" and "À la Tour Eiffel."
"This record is a dance between two people who love and value the same things: deep poetry and solid melodies. The title Entre eux deux (between us two) stands true. Here's a peek into the world of two artists who just really dig each other. We hope you really dig it, too."
...it will appeal to anyone who has a soft spot for dreamy, love-soaked ballads and duets that stand out for their intimacy. Gardot wrote or co-wrote eight of the compositions here, and some have the aura of future standards. Keeping it slow and quiet, Gardot and Powell make excellent use of space and employ the lightest brushstrokes in order to weave their spell. Sometimes, at the end of Gardot's lines, Powell sprinkles in a few notes that change the tone in a manner that's subtle yet extremely effective. Entre eux deux captures such details with great clarity, not to mention the rich tonality of a Steinway piano and a voice that need but whisper to capture our hearts.
