180 Gram Vinyl! Produced by David Bowie! One of the Defining Glam Records! Huge Riffs & Terrific Tunes!
The five original members of Mott The Hoople are Verden Allen, Dale Griffin, Ian Hunter, Mick Ralphs and Pete Overend Watts. Guy Stevens at Island Records took a Hereford band called Silence under his wing in 1969, and the group was completed when Ian Hunter auditioned for a spot as the singer and pianist. Mott The Hoople formed in 1969, signing to Island Records and releasing four albums with the label. The group switched to CBS Records in 1972 with the release of the All The Young Dudes album.
Mott The Hoople's All The Young Dudes (1972) was an influential record when it came out, and continues to impress listeners to this day. Coproduced by David Bowie, the album contains a balanced selection of well written songs by Ian Hunter and the boys. The band is on a roll, and having Bowie on board to colour in the songs with his distinctive style makes this an essential record for '70s Rock fans all over the globe.
"[Bowie's] production results in one of the most satisfying glam records and the title track is one of the all-time great rock songs... [T]he band's swagger is unmistakable underneath the flair and Ian Hunter remains on a songwriting roll... The entire band was on a roll here, turning out great performances and writing with vigor. They may not be as sexy as either Bowie or Bolan, but they make up for it with knowing humor, huge riffs, and terrific tunes, dressed up with style by Ziggy himself. No wonder it's not just a great Mott record -- it's one of the defining glam platters." - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, allmusic.com, Rated 5/5 Stars
"Between the Bowie and Reed tunes, the two bows to the Stones, the latest variation on Highway 61 and the irresistible 'Ready for Love' (there's also the haunting, sad Hunter ballad, 'Sea Diver,' giving the album a somber, mystic ending), there's an extravagant amount of power-driven, hook-laden rock & roll on All the Young Dudes. Bowie deserves plenty of credit for the cleaning and refining, but he had plenty to work with." - Bud Scoppa, Rolling Stone
