Michael Fremer Rated 10/10 Music, 9/10 Sonics!
180g Double LP PLUS DVD! Black & White Vinyl! Restored From Original Footage!
Mastered From Original Source by Bob Clearmountain!
First Official Release of Rare Live 1981 Performance At the Checkerboard Lounge in Chicago!
On November 22, 1981, the Rolling Stones were criss-crossing America on one of their mammoth tours when they had a night off in Chicago and went to see Muddy Waters performing at the Checkerboard Lounge. Mick Jagger, Ron Wood, Keith Richards, and Ian Stewart wound up jamming with Muddy and his band to the absolute delight of the lucky patrons there that night and, it was all caught on tape - and camera.
Restored from original footage, with the advantage of DTS Surround Sound, Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital stereo, mixed and mastered by Bob Clearmountain, this 90-minute wang-dang-doodle has been lovingly preserved for the ages. Add Buddy Guy, Junior Wells and other musicians into the equation and the sum of these parts is not only greater than the whole but worth salivating over. Previously only available as a bootleg.
"The LP sound, almost surely cut from a digital transfer once Bob Clearmountain had finished editing and mixing, is remarkably transparent, full-bodied, spacious and to a lesser degree three-dimensionally "club like." It was mastered at Metropolis in the UK, but there are no mastering stamps or scribes on the vinyl. If you watch the video first, you'll "see" it just as clearly on vinyl, with Mick standing just to the left of Muddy, the drum kit behind and Keith and Ronnie off to the right. The anonymous recording engineer did a stupendous job overall. Wait until you hear the drums and bass. Highly recommended for every reason!" - Michael Fremer, www.analogplanet.com, Music 10/10, Sound 9/10!
"...the audio quality is exemplary, possibly better than the digital CD. This analog technology has a warmer texture, but still captures the raw sensation of live blues music. The separation is excellent, even with multiple guitar parts. Muddyâs breathy vocals and verbal banter are clear. All of the background instrumentation is discernible, and the intermittent club noise (especially the audience) reminds the listener what this night is all about. Plus, the white vinyl disc of the two is tantamount to a holiday gift for any collector." - Robbie Gerson, www.audaud.com, 4.5/5 Stars!
