Double LP & Bonus 7" Vinyl!
2020 Stereophile Magazine Record to Die For!
Recorded in Telluride, Colorado, Young's Colorado is the first new Neil Young with Crazy Horse album since 2012's Psychedelic Pill. The album features 10 new Neil Young compositions and includes several songs that Neil has been playing live in the months prior to its release (eg: "Rainbow of Colors", "Green Is Blue" and "Milky Way"), and the epic 13+ minute track "She Showed Me Love".
The double LP version of the album comes with a bonus 7" single, featuring an album outtake "Truth Kills". The 7" also includes a live, solo version of "Rainbow of Colors" from Portland, OR, on May 17, 2019 - the first time Neil ever performed this song live.
This incarnation of Crazy Horse is Neil Young on vocals, guitar, piano, harmonica and vibes, Billy Talbot on bass, Ralph Molina on drums and features the return of Nils Lofgren on guitar and piano, almost 50 years since he last appeared on a Crazy Horse album (1971). The album is produced by Neil Young and John Hanlon and was recorded in Colorado in April & May 2019.
After a seven-year hiatus, Neil Young & Crazy Horse return with an album bristling with polemic and personal reflection, a tumultuous sonic palette, and songs both wistful and willful. At their heaviest, the songs bear the band's signature sound: heavy guitar distortion, tortured steel-string harmonies and trance-like jams... The defiant 'Shut It Down' and the anthemic 'Rainbow of Colors' make it clear that, at 73, Young is not going quietly into that good night, even as he closes with 'I Do,' a whisper of a ballad that captures life's affirming qualities.
The 73-year-old rocker/environmentalist's first studio album with Crazy Horse since 2012's Psychedelic Pill - and it sounds good to boot - Colorado is a surprisingly optimistic oeuvre populated by charming melodies, vibrant choruses, and fuzz-dripping guitar tones. Lyrically, this album delivers a high quotient of poignancy, as when Neil, in his pleading-angel falsetto, sings of the people he's lost along the way: 'Now I know that they're here to stay in my heart.' Neil still sings about the environment, but it's not all bleak. It has also never sounded more relevant. The old hippie wasn't living in the past; he was ahead of his time.
