New York City is where guitarist and singer/songwriter Peter Malick first discovered for himself the then little known 21-year old sensation at a club on New York's Lower East Side and immediately recognized this special talent that would later move a city, a country and eventually an audience worldwide.
Following that fateful July 2000 evening, Malick and Jones soon became friends - which led to Norah joining Peter Malick for some gigs in New England Blues clubs. The chemistry between these artists was so special that Norah agreed to record for Peter, and the two put down 6 tracks during August and September 2000. Later, Norah was signed to Blue Note for her now legendary debut album.
New York City magically captures the voice that won America's heart in perfect balance with new music created by Peter Malick.
New York City is an outstanding Peter Malick featuring Norah Jones performance created about a year prior to the recording of her multi-platinum smash Come Away With Me.
The 6 songs include four new compositions by Peter Malick - including the title track, "New York City" - along with Sam Maghett's "All Your Love" and Bob Dylan's "Heart Of Mine." New York City was produced by Peter Malick and executive produced by Grammy Award winner Hugh Fordin.
Peter Malick has described his music as "the intersection where B.B. King meets Lou Reed." His career includes backing such blues greats as Muddy Waters, Freddy King, john Lee Hooker & Big Mama Thornton, as well as spending two years as conductor & guitarist for the Broadway musical Hair. Malick's solo album, Wrong Side of My Life, was released in 1998 on Conqueroot Records.
