This is the first of six studio albums in Redding's legendary career, cut short by his death in a plane crash on Dec. 10, 1967. There are five Redding originals here; the timeless "These Arms of Mine," Redding's first to hit the charts, "Hey Hey Baby" is an influenced tribute to Little Richard, and also "Security," "That's What My Heart Needs," and "Something Is Worrying Me." Notable covers include Ben E. King's "Stand by Me," Sam Cooke's "You Send Me," The Kingsmen's "Louie Louie," and Little Richard's "Lucille."

The tight backing band, featuring Booker T. & the M.G.'s and the Memphis Horns, provides a gritty, groove-laden foundation that makes every track sizzle.
