Emerging from the New York arts scene in the early 1970s, Patti Smith managed to parlay herself from being a writer, poetess and performance artist into fully fledged rockstar chick via her relationship with guitarist Lenny Kaye. By the time she got round to recording her second album Easter, she had established herself as a potent live act with regular gigs at New Yorks CBGBs. Easter was released in March 1978 and became a Top 20 smash on both sides of the Atlantic mainly due to the huge hit single Because The Night which she co-authored with Bruce Springsteen (ever heard of him?). Fantastic production by Jimmy Iovine and a great cover!
Selections: Till Victory, Space Monkey, Because The Night, Ghost Dance, Babelogue, Rock n Roll Nigger, Privilege (Set Me Free), We Three, 25th Floor/High On Rebellion, Easter.
