Reckoning was R.E.M.'s third album on I.R.S. Records. This 1984 recording was the follow-up to Murmur (UDCD 642) which spawned a plethora of imitators to the R.E.M. 'sound'. Produced by Mitch Easter and Don Dixon, Reckoning is a first rate recording with powerful songs such as So. Central Rain and (Don't Go Back To) Rockville. On this recording, R.E.M. projects a different mood, brightening the sound and bringing the rhythm section forward. The All Music Guide To Rock gave Reckoning 5-stars - right along with Murmur. Recorded at Reflection Sound in Charlotte, North Carolina, all songs are by Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe.
