Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - Rated 221/500!
November 3, 2012 marked the 20th anniversary of one of the most explosive debut albums ever. Formed in 1991, Rage Against The Machine laid the groundwork for an aggressive new rock-rap genre with their politically-charged first album. Fueled by Tom Morello's distinctive guitar sound and vocalist Zack de la Rocha's messages of political and social consciousness, Rage Against the Machine became a critical and commercial success, selling millions of copies around the world and attaining legendary status among alt-rock fans. To this day, the album, and the band, remains the standard-bearer for uncompromising, incendiary rock.
Music On Vinyl got their hands on a newly remastered audio for this legendary release and they've thrown in a printed inner sleeve with lyrics for good measure.
Rage Against The Machine were formed in 1991 by Tom Morello, Zack de la Rocha, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford. Soon after forming they recorded a 12-track demo, most of which became their eponymous debut album. The album finally achieved triple platinum-selling status partly on the strength of the single “Killing in the Name”.
Pissed off and angry is the best way to describe Rage Against the Machine's first album. A fierce mix of hip-hop, punk & heavy rock exploded all over the music scene in 1992.
At first sight an unlikely band; Tom Morello, a nerdy guitarhero who played his guitar like a DJ, political activist Zack de la Rocha who spitted out his lyrics with a vengeance. Together with Brad Wilk on drums and Tim C. on bass they produced one of the most angry records of 90's.
The album even contained, dare we say it, hit singles like "Killing In The Name" and "Bullet In The Head".
Put the needle on the record and get blown away (again)!
"Gunning de la Rocha's incantatory rapping with rib-rattling slam, Rage Against the Machine get hot and nasty about authority with acute lyric detail and stunning force. Rage Against the Machine's mix of radical politics and headbanging kicks was a startling anomaly amid the self-absorbed ennui of the Year Grunge Broke. But the album's commercial success was a crucial reaffirmation of rock's potency as a weapon of protest." - Rolling Stone
