This 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Pressing transcends the term "Holiday Album". It is a musical and sonic triumph! It will sound fabulous year round!

The holiday season is blessed with the first ever holiday album by the radiant voice of Sarah McLachlan! Audiophile 180g version of the Grammy nominated Wintersong is a must buy for audiophiles and Sarah McLachlan fans alike!

Featuring her usually well recorded sound and production, this 180g pressing of Sarah's first holiday album is really atypical and noteworthy. Her innovative versions of some very well known tunes are quite magical featuring a wonderful cover of Joni Mitchell's River and a duet with Diana Krall as well (on Christmastime Is Here).

Three-time Grammy and eight-time Juno Award-winning multi-platinum Arista recording artists Sarah McLachlan ushers in the spirit of the season with Wintersong, a 12 song collection.

Recorded in her home studio in Vancouver, Sarah McLachlan presents these classic songs on Wintersong with a unique twist, making them her own and translating them into her repertoire. These recordings are not simply traditional holiday fare. Instead, Wintersong could be considered the soundtrack to a blustery winter day. The album opens with her version of John Lennon's timeless declaration of peace from 1971 "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)". John and Yoko and the Plastic Ono Band originally recorded the song with the Harlem Community Choir. Sarah is also joined by a choral group - a children's choir of students form the school she personally funds and oversees in her hometown of Vancouver.

Another highlight for the album is Sarah's version of "River" from Joni Mitchell's 1971 Blue album. The title track "Wintersong" was written by Sarah specifically for this album. On this recording, she also pays homage to Gordon Lightfoot with his 1975 "Song for a Winter's Night". From the American standard songbook, Sarah has chosen "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". The program is rounded out with the traditional "What Child Is This (Greensleeves)", "O Little Town of Bethlehem", "Silent Night", the classically flavored "In A Bleak Mid Winter", and a medley of "The First Noel/Mary Mary". In addition, Wintersong features guest appearances from Diana Krall on piano on "Christmas Time Is Here" from the 1965 Charlie Brown Christmas cartoon and fellow Canadian Jim Creegan of Barenaked Ladies guests on double bass throughout the album.

Wintersong is Sarah's first new studio recording since Afterglow. The album celebrates three years of renewed growth and self-realization for the artist who takes a joyous and festive turn on Wintersong, a timely gift from Sarah McLachlan to her universe of fans, new and old.

"Because no artist’s career is truly complete without a holiday album, Sarah McLachlan took yet another step toward establishing her place in sentimental adult contemporary radio history with Wintersong. For the most part, the singer chooses the darker, more melancholic, and “wintry” pieces to cover (there’s no “Joy to the World” or “Angels We Have Heard on High,” for example), focusing as much on the Christmas season and the general feel of the holiday as on its religious connotations. She brings together the folk spiritual “Mary Mary” - also called “Virgin Mary” when covered by Joan Baez on her 1966 Noël or “Mary What You Gonna Call That Pretty Little Baby” when a black gospel song - and the traditional “The First Noel,” showing off not only her own impressive range but her ability to adapt to different vocal styles while still remaining wholly herself. Her version of Gordon Lightfoot’s “Song for a Winter’s Night,” which was originally released on the 1994 Miracle on 34th Street soundtrack (and then on McLachlan’s Rarities, B-Sides & Other Stuff), is pretty and sweet, using as acoustic guitar as well as layers and layers of vocal harmonies to create a sense of space and warmth, and her cover of Joni Mitchell's “River” is lovely..." - ALL MUSIC GUIDE
