Two Albums On 180g Vinyl Double LP!
A Night at the Village Vanguard ft. Donald Bailey & Elvin Jones a.o. is a live album by tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins recorded in New York City in 1957. This recording is often magical. Sonny Rollins, one of jazz's great tenors, is heard at his peak... Not only did Rollins have a very distinctive sound, but his use of time, his sly wit, and his boppish but unpredictable style were completely his own.
Sonny Rollins At Music Inn was recorded in 1958. Although Rollins only plays on half of the tracks of the original set ("Doxy", "Limehouse Blues", "I'll Follow My Secret Heart", "You Are Too Beautiful") the recordings are well worth hearing because he is at his best and at times his sardonic side almost sounds as though he wanted to prick the pretensions of the Modern Jazz Quartet. Also included are his two numbers as a guest artist with the MJQ during their performance at the Music Inn in 1958, "Bag's Groove" and "Night In Tunisia".
