Neon Yellow with Orange Splatter Vinyl LP!
Shangri-LA-DEE-DA shows off Stone Temple Pilots' ability to synthesize and celebrate a vast array of musical influences into a wholly original and genre bending album. The fifth studio record from the classic STP lineup, originally released in 2001, was recorded in a Malibu beach house. Originally slated to be a double album, it was re-imagined as a 1-LP, and features 13 tracks that bring listeners on a genre-defiant anthology of tales of Hollywood excess and more mundane moments of awe in life including new fatherhood.
Regardless of their critical reputation, no rock band of their time turned out such a consistently dazzling streak of pop tunes. Sometimes, the rockers do catch hold but, by this point, they don't seem as interesting as the excursions into psych-pop that gives Shangri-La Dee Da its real core.
A complex and genre-bending joyride
