Born James Lewis Carter Ford, T-Model Ford began his career in the 1970s. For many years, he recorded for the Fat Possum label, but later moved to Alive. T-Model Ford was born in Mississippi but could not remember his exact date of birth. He had a rough life, having survived an abusive and violent childhood, been sentenced ten years on a chain gang for murder, had several run ins with the law and several failed marriages. After his fifth wife left him, he took up playing guitar and toured with Buddy Guy until he was discovered in 1995 and signed to Fat Possum.
