Pianist Yunchan Lim has taken the world by storm aged just 21. He now presents Tchaikovsky's timeless and rarely recorded piano suite, The Seasons, his third release on Decca Classics. In just a few short years, Lim's technical flourish, deft control and unprecedented mastery has seen him amass an avid international following – this interpretation of The Seasons delivers on the young pianist's already formidable reputation.

Lim is alert to internal lines and their meanings, and he adds quite a bit of rubato....a promising step for this young artist.

Yunchan Lim plays the music with daringly broad rhythms, aka rubato, even more so than in his Chopin playing, where such a practice is de rigueur. To his great credit, this comes off without any trace of affectation or overt sentimentality, due in no small way to his exquisitely delicate phrasing and plangent tone. It is hard to imagine that Pyotr Illyich would have been less than delighted to hear his music played this way. Recorded sound is exceptionally realistic.
