Zoot Sims In Copenhagen was recorded live at the Jazzhouse Slukefter in Copenhagen, Denmark. This August 24, 1978 event was produced by Jens Jorn Gjedsted in cooperation with the Danish Broadcasting Corporation. John Haley 'Zoot' Sims plays tenor and soprano saxophones with The Kenny Drew Trio. The Trio at this time was comprised of Drew on piano, Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen on bass and Ed Thigpen on drums.

Sims, born in 1925, began his career in Southern California. He spent some time with the Stan Kenton and Benny Goodman bands, but his first real fame came when he was part of the 'Four Brothers' sax section in the Woody Herman Band. With his melodic, traditional West Coast style, Sims was not only inspiring and eloquent, but also ingeniously creative that the material didn't matter. Sadly, Zoot Sims passed away in March of 1985. A Storyville Records release, Zoot Sims In Copenhagen is Mobile Fidelity's first Sims title on Ultradisc II.
