2006 Holiday Album on Vinyl LP for the First Time!
Now a Christmas classic in its own right, 2006's One More Drifter in the Snow reflects a wide range of emotional tones from the season. Aimee Mann explains that she wanted to create an album that "captures the spooky beauty and mystery that Christmas is."
Mann compares her idea of the "spooky mystery" to that feeling she used to get from watching the Peanuts Christmas special, where Charlie Brown starts out depressed about the season until the spiritual beauty of Christmas is pointed out. Aimee further recalls "I literally couldn't sleep all night and at midnight would peer out my window hoping to catch a glimpse of the Christmas star or maybe even Santa, who was this cool ghost who brings you presents."
Featuring Aimee's versions of Yuletide classics as well as her original holiday song, "Calling on Mary."
Inspired in part by Charlie Brown's aversion to the commercialism of Christmas in A Charlie Brown Christmas, this comforting collection of songs finds singer-songwriter Aimee Mann contending with ghosts of Christmases past and present in holiday classics and covers of Jimmy Webb's 'Whatever Happened to Christmas?' and husband Michael Penn's 'Christmastime,' among others. A woozy and wondrous balm for the down-and-out during the holidays.
