The Bach violin concertos represent a pinnacle of the Baroque genre. Four are included here: two undisputed masterpieces (the concertos in A minor and E major) and two probable transcriptions. Alina Ibragimova's recording of the solo concertos with Jonathan Cohen and Arcangelo won universal critical praise on its release, with Gramophone welcoming "an outstanding and distinctive addition to a catalog bursting at the seams," and Classic FM praising Ibragimova for "playing of the highest order."
Available on 180g vinyl.
This is without question one of the best of the many recordings of this work
The synergistic balance here is between the airy textures of the baroque instruments with a kind of relaxed, nondogmatic emotional expressivity. These qualities are beautifully enhanced by Hyperion's typically well-balanced, natural sound, absent any solo spotlighting, as reviewed here in the finely produced LP version.
