Mastered from the Original Analog Tapes by Bernie Grundman!
Recorded in 1970 at Rudy Van Gelders studio under the production auspices of Creed Taylor, the arrangement and conducting skills of Deodato, and the engineering expertise of Van Gelder himself, Jobims Stone Flower is quite simply one of his most quietly stunning works. Stone Flower is simply brilliant, a velvety, late-night snapshot of Jobim at his peak. This 180gram vinyl reissue was mastered from analog tapes by Bernie Grundman and pressed on audiophile-grade vinyl at Pallas in Germany.
One of the great popular music composers of the 20th Century, Antonio Carlos Jobim emerged from Brazil's burgeoning bossa nova movement of the early-1960s. The quietly powerful Stone Flower contains nine graceful compositions including the jazz waltz "Children's Games," the sublime "Choro," the sophisticated "Andorinha," and the dramatic title track.
With flawless arrangements from fellow Brazilian Eumir Deodato, the silky smooth set features Jobim on piano, acoustic guitar, and, occasionally his trademark husky, half-whispered vocals with further accompaniment from Joe Farrell (soprano saxophone), Urbie Green (trombone), Ron Carter (double bass), João Palma (drums), Harry Loofosky (violin) and Airto Moreira/Everaldo Ferreira (percussion).
