Here's where it all began...
This expanded double LP version of the "first album" thoroughly (though not completely) documents the band's first four years of recorded history. Pitchfork calls it "a declaration of their undefined, instinctive, and fearless nature."
The summer days bottled up inside our one guitar burst forth in these various recording sessions despite the autumnal overcast of our downtown Olympia existence. Painful process of creation, chrysalis into beautiful butterfly, or perhaps just fly.
Beat Happening can't be given credit for creating the indie pop genre, but they certainly gave it life in America. This, their first album, is indie pop in its purest form: fuzzy bedroom recordings of simplistic, cutesy songs, with intentionally innocent and juvenile lyrics... Beat Happening is as twee and charming as this type of music can get.
