In the world of traditional jazz there are few stand-out vocalists and even fewer visionaries... Carmen Lundy is both. The clarity and singleness of mind with which she conveys her thoughts and emotions permeate every aspect of her music and life. A singer, songwriter, arranger, actress and painter, Lundy is no stranger to self expression. On Old Devil Moon, her lush alto vocals lilt across an array of familiar and not so familiar melodies, at times paying homage to greats like Sarah Vaughn and Carmen McRae and, at other times, completely fresh and inspired.
On this, her second XRCD, Carmen celebrates the New York jazz scene of which she has long been an esteemed participant. With all the arrangements done by the artist herself, Old Devil Moon gives Lundy the chance to call the shots with an impressive array of jazz heavy weights including Victor Bailey, Randy Brecker, Billy Childs, Frank Foster, Omar Hakim and Bob Mintzer. Recorded by Akira Taguchi, the co-creator of the XRCD process, Old Devil Moon is a phenomenal recording perfectly suited for the incredible fidelity of XRCD.
