Deep Purple's pre progressive/hard rock reign, Book of Taliesyn was released in 1968 with the original Deep Purple line up of Jon Lord (organ), Ian Paice (Drums), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), with Rod Evans (vocals) and Nick Simper (bass and vocals). This version of the band recorded three albums Shades of Deep Purple, Book of Taiesyn and Deep Purple before significant line up changes.

If you're a fan of later Deep Purple releases you should be aware that this line up sounds quite a bit different than the classic Mark II. After recording this album Simper and Evans were kicked out and replaced with Glover and Gillian (who were kicked out later). The group turned more to hard rock on the studio albums.
