The last groove is NOT a good place for your stylus! The LIFT is a Must Have Accessory!
There is an important advantage to lifting the arm up at a record's end. It eliminates excessive vinyl build up on the sides of the stylus and this is why. A stylus riding that last groove more then twice is creating heat, (at the stylus point are tons of pressure producing this heat) thus melting the vinyl. Extra rotation, extra heat. Once this heavy build up occurs, it must be completely removed before the next play. A dirty stylus will damage the grooves therefore changing the sound. At least an hour should pass before playing the same record over again, this allows the vinyl to resume its shape.
In Stereophile Magazine's original review for The LIFT, Michael Fremer said: "Once properly adjusted it worked flawlessly and reliably, lifting the arm off the record gently and without surprises."
The Expressimo Audio Brass Tonearm LIFT is the solution to this problem. Machined from brass and polished to a gold luster, the LIFT easily installs between the tonearm and the platter on the plinth. As the tonearm hits the last lead groove of the record, it trips the LIFT which raises and suspends the tonearm in the air. With a stable, heavy circular base, the LIFT will mount on any table.
The LIFT is designed for all pivotal (non-linear tracking) tonearms, except for Music Hall and Pro-Ject Turntables. A Special version is neeed for these tables, please click here!
Instructions:
Simply and Easy Set Up! The LIFT comes with a small allen wrench and small velcro strip. The LIFT is made for platters 1" to 1" 1/2 tall, but with a simple spacer you can put it on any platter. What you will need is a small piece of double sided tape to hold down the LIFT to the plinth.
The center point of the LIFT is just above (1/16" to 1/8") the top of the vinyl. You can adjust that by unloosening the set screw and moving the foot stand up or down. This will be how high it LIFTs your arm.
Please use your cartridge guard and an old record when setting up the LIFT. Some cartridges weigh 6 to 12 grams plus, so you will need to adjust the head weight of the LIFT accordingly.
Set the arm at the last groove and position the LIFT touching the arm. Once you determine final resting place for the LIFT, check to make sure it lifts correctly, place a piece of double sided tape underneath the LIFT base to adhere it to your plinth.
