Hans Theessink is probably Europe's No. 1 blues export. After 8,000 concerts and 50 years "on the road," he is a roots and blues institution. With his sonorous baritone voice and unmistakable guitar work, Hans delights audiences around the world with his rich and emotional sounds. The US blues press called him "an international blues treasure" and "one of the world's pre-eminent pickers". The legendary Bo Diddley called him "one helluva guitar player". In 2018 Hans was inducted into the Dutch Blues Hall Of Fame.
This Tape is carefully copied from a Philips EL3501 master recorder to 6 Philips N4522 recorders. STS Digital copies with CCIR equalization with reference level 320 nWb/m on halftrack 1/4" LPR35 tape from Recording the Masters. Delivered on a special made silver or golden aluminum reel with a cut out STS logo (3X). STS Digital does their utmost to give you the best quality possible, but remember it is analogue technology, there will always be some noise floor (they don't use Dolby) because it will kill the music enjoyment. Please listen with love for that old-fashioned analogue recording technique. Make sure that you clean your heads regularly for optimal frequency response.
** It is standard practice in all recording studios to keep the tape "tail out". This reduces "pre-echo" and it means that the tape should be placed on the right hand side of the recorder, re-wound and then played.
Theessink has composed a stirring set of songs that seamlessly fuse his unplugged strumming, sonorous voice, and three-piece band into the very definition of laid-back comfort. Such magnificent combinations of seemingly divergent elements drive this splendid album to spine-tingling heights. Theessink doesn't play traditional blues here; instead, he deftly references the genre as one of many stops on his global trek through the Delta, into backwoods folk, and onward to Africa.
Slow Train is absolutely stunning. Bridges was a peach of an album, full of Africa influences and beautifully married to Theessink's deep love of the blues, but he's gone one better with this one. The song writing is so strong and his band is nothing short of incredible. Those African influences continue to play a major part too; think a bluesier Graceland and you'd be getting close to what this man does. Theessink's voice is the perfect foil for the music; deep and creamy but with a lovely easygoing quality to it. My favorite song is the title track; I loved it on first hearing and it just gets better with every play. In fact, that's true of the whole album, a really uplifting experience. Pure gold dust.
