Salvatore Accardo conducting the Orchestra da Camera Italiana performing Astor Piazzolla's Oblivion.

Salvatore Accardo is an outstanding Italian violin virtuoso, best known as a master of the works of Niccolò Paganini, but equally accomplished across a wide variety of repertory for the instrument. Accardo met Astor Piazzolla in Buenos Aires in 1969 while on a tour of Latin America. He treasures the discussions they had, and Piazzolla even dedicated his Milonga in D (the third track on this record) to Accardo.

"I believe that Piazzolla’s place is with the great musicians of the 20th century, like Gershwin, who have been able to convey into their compositions, in an absolutely original way, the musical currents of their time, thus creating a personal and highly distinctive style. If you happen to listen for the first time to one of his pieces, you understand immediately that it’s by Piazzolla. His melodies are unique, yearning. And so is the rhythm, of which we have already said. Astor was a truly complete musician, who combined an extraordinary inventive talent with an exceptional interpretative technique, the fruit of many years of hard study and work." - Salvatore Accardo
