For Smoke Fire Hope Desire, the musician known as Harts appears to be channeling the spirit of the greats who have gone on before him, including Prince and Jimi Hendrix.
According to a 2014 review with AU., and a separate interview with SBS Viceland published February 2017, Prince had actually called Harts (Darren Hart) to encourage him and gave him tips in songwriting...even invited him to Paisley Park to jam with him and give him pointers. Darren also mentioned guitarists Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy huge as influences, which is evident in his guitar playing.
