Original Direct-To 2-Track Recording made at United Recordings (formerly known as Oceanway Studios) in Hollywood by Joe Harley and Mike Ross. Dubs are made by Bernie Grundman using the Original 30 ips 1/4" 2-Track Masters. The masters are played back off of Bernie's customized and rebuilt Studer A80, then run through his EQ board, and straight into a series of Ampex ATR102 tape machines.
These Groove Note Master Quality Reel To Reel Tapes are made at 15 ips and EQ are NAB. Included are 2 Reels, a 1kHz alignment tone along with repros of the original cover art.
Since the actual session masters are run to make these copies, there is a limit to the number of times this can be done. !
Julie London, the legendary torch song singer and pop balladeer of the '60s and early 70s, passed away in Los Angeles October 2000. The singer who had a huge hit with her version of Cry Me A River still retains a large fan base worldwide and has always been one of Jacintha's favorite singers. It only seems natural that for this, her fourth album for Groove Note, the sensual and talented Jacintha, no mean balladeer herself, chose to record and dedicate an album to Julie.
Inspired mainly by Ms. London's first Liberty album, Julie Is Her Name and its spare guitar and acoustic bass formats, Jacintha and arranger/pianist Bill Cunliffe (recently nominated for a Jazz Arranging Grammy) have come up with a spectacular new record. Using the guitar and bass combo as a basic springboard, the album has taken some of the songs most closely associated with Ms. London e.g. Cry Me A River, and some not so familiar like Light My Fire, and transformed them into the kind of material that Jacintha handles best. Intimate, sexy, seductive.
** It is standard practice in all recording studios to keep the tape "tail out". This reduces "pre-echo" and it means that the tape should be placed on the right hand side of the recorder, re-wound and then played.
