This big cast album features Jeremy Monteiro, jazz pianist, composer and conductor with guest stars such as Jacintha! A fresh re-imagining of the music of The Carpenters!

Jeremy Monteiro is a jazz pianist, singer, composer, and music educator. In his native country he was named "Singapore's King of Swing" by the local press.

Jacintha Abisheganaden, also known as Jacintha or Ja, is a Singaporean singer and actress. Growing up, Jacintha listened to a wide variety of music – not only vocal jazz and traditional pop, but also artists who ranged from Stevie Wonder to Joni Mitchell to South African singer Miriam Makeba. Jacintha was a big fan of Brazilian bandleader Sergio Mendes during her upbringing, and she has been quoted as saying that she was "obsessed" with Barbra Streisand. "Possessed with a voice that could blow the roof off the ceiling of a theater, Jacintha instead prefers to lull the listener into the song with minimalist arrangements and a vocal style that seduces but never assaults," says Jazz Review.

"I think I have a very good idea for a special album." Jeremy was comfortably seated, leaning back in a couch. It was late in a gorgeous spring afternoon in 2001. We were sitting out in the garden just relaxing and listening to the sounds of the nature.

"Jeremy" was Jeremy Monteiro, my good friend, who had just flown in from Singapore to Seattle for a few days. Before long, he would be leaving for Chicago to do some recording.

"What is it?" I was tempted to ask when he closed his eyes again. He sat up and spoke in a serious manner. "Next year will be the 30th anniversary of ‘The Carpenters.’ People of our age grew up with all those beautiful songs by Karen Carpenter. If we could produce an album of some of those great songs - say, in a jazz format - as our tribute to The Carpenters, it would be wonderful."

"You mean just instrumentals, but no vocals?" Skeptical, I hesitated. "Sure. WhatÂ’s wrong with that?" He looked surprised. "You know all audiophiles love female vocals, particularly on songs by Karen Carpenter. However, it is not easy to find someone who can come close to what she does." (I guess IÂ’d have to admit that I was not optimistic!)

Jeremy thought for a while and then jumped up. In this case, why donÂ’t we invite Jacintha to do it? IÂ’ve known her since childhood, and she often sang the music of The Carpenters. She loves those songs! Jeremy was really excited. In the next five minutes Jeremy was talking on the phone to Jacintha in Singapore. To my surprise, she was overjoyed, and accepted the invitation without a second thought! Better yet, Jeremy was even able to get the award-winning "Two for Brazil" duo to sing one song, adding a delightful Latin American flavor to this album.

So here it is: a jazz tribute album to the music of the Carpenters, as Jeremy wanted - but with Jacintha singing in a stunning way, as I wanted! - Winston Ma/First Impressions Music

"For anyone who loves the songs of Karen Carpenter, Winston Ma's new album is a fitting tribute to her. Her songs are reinterpreted in a jazz setting, and the incomparable Jacintha sings several. If the opening bars of this album don't freeze you in place and make you listen with rapt attention, something's wrong. Jacintha's smooth, sultry delivery, coupled with some great jazz artists, all captured with state-of-the-art sound quality, combine to make for a disc that is a distinct pleasure to listen to... Jacintha's interpretation of some of these songs, such as 'I Won't Last a Day Without You,' makes them her own. This work is sung slowly with feeling, in a way that lets the listener appreciate all the subtlety, nuance, sustain, and breath control that Jacintha is capable of. With the lights off, it's easy to imagine that she's right in the room, standing behind your speakers and singing her heart out. Jacintha reportedly sang these songs as a child and loves them, and it shows." - Dave Glackin, enjoythemusic.com

"IÂ’ll make no bones about it: sonically this is an absolutely stunning album. Engineering maven Jim Anderson has managed to capture nearly every nuance of each instrument. ItÂ’s all here, the whole nine yards, from soundstaging to instrumental tone to frequency extension to, well, you name it and youÂ’ll hear it. And wait until you get a load of the vocals. IÂ’ve never heard Jacintha sound better. I could hear how she formed the words as clearly as I could hear the breaths she took to propel those words into the microphone. The sonics from this Hybrid stereo SACD are everything a new format is supposed to deliver -- and more." - John Crossett, soundstage.com Read more!

"This is an impassioned duet. Superb. Monteiro shadows JacinthaÂ’s flow, never pushing, discreet as an expert body guard. You can just see them dancing. When they end, you can still hear the purity of the notes reverberating in the silence." - Kalamu ya Salaam, Breath of Life, on the track "A Song For You"

A Better CD Production Process - The Pure Reflection (PureFlection) Process:
FIM UHD CDs now sound undeniably better than ever! FIM's first priority is to locate a factory that at offers the latest technologies throughout its entire production chain, from the best A-grade polycarbonate materials, to testing and accurate quality control tools. The factory must produce a detailed specification sheet which ensures the discs produced demonstrate the same quality as the original recording. To assure us of the best results, FIM has enlisted the help of one of the most experienced mastering engineers in the industry to craft the glass disc for the final replication process. Winston Ma continually maintains close rapport with him, as well as the original recording engineers, the mastering engineers and the manufacturer to achieve consensus regarding musicality and the sound spectrum.

FIM's glass mastering-disc engineer maintains expertise in the latest technologies: he currently uses a special blu-ray recordable mastering thermal process technique to create small smooth grooves which result in precision fidelity. He is meticulous in ensuring the best track pitch and the distance between the spiral of the pits, to reduce the amount of noise the tracking servo in the drive picks up from adjacent tracks, thus ensuring the best parameters on Cross Talk (XT) by minimizing the servo noise of the Drive during playback of the replica results. To further ensure the best quality, FIM stipulates the most extensive test specification requirements. Pure Reflection (PureFlection) discs show in every CD booklet the full spectrum of specification of a given CD in the following categories:

BLER (17 items), BERL (9 items), Physical (6 items), Jitter (6 items), E22 Graph and BLER Graph

The concept of UHD 32-Bit PureFlection is the transformation of a superior sound into something truly exceptional, enhancing the experience without interfering in it. Sit back, relax and listen to the new sound of a UHD 32-Bit PureFlection CD!

Ultra High Definition 32-Bit Mastering!
Ultra High Definition 32-Bit Mastering is a proprietary ultra-high-quality mastering system. This leading-edge system has achieved unprecedented sonority and musicality, reproducing as closely as possible the sound of the original master tape! This format employs what is currently the highest attainable resolution bit depth (word length) in the professional audio field, i.e. 32-bit. 32-bit resolution makes possible maximized, undistorted dynamics, and the lowest noise floor, allowing even the quietest musical information to be heard more clearly. This breakthrough results from the development, through years of experience and application of advanced digital technology, of a sophisticated A/D and D/A processing system.

Ultra HD 32-Bit Mastering does not specify a sampling rate; this allows flexibility in meticulously choosing the appropriate bandwidth for a particular recording. The higher the sampling rate -- for example, 192 kHz -- the greater the bandwidth. However, merely employing the greatest bandwidth may not guarantee the ultimate sound. With some recordings, a lower sampling rate -- 96 or 176 kHz -- may offer better musicality and more homogeneous harmonics. This determination requires careful and discerning auditioning and professional judgment. In the end, the human beingÂ’s hearing and emotions should be the final arbiter, rather than the print-out of testing equipment or technical measurements.

Recognizing these variables, FIM nevertheless tries to use 32-bit depth and 192 kHz bandwidth whenever the original analog master is at hand. Alternatively, if the original recording is on 24/96, the 32/96 may eventually be used to maintain the integrity of the sonority particular to that recording. With this flexibility, First Impression Music believes that preeminent sound is only achievable when the chemistry of the recording, mastering, glass-stamper making, replication, and quality control is right. As always, listening is believing. This recording has been mastered by the new Ultra High Definition 32-Bit Mastering process, which creates an unbelievable sound surpassing other formats!
