When the film, "The Harder They Come", was released in 1972 it provided the first real glimpse into Jamaican subcultures and provided the perfect platform for Jimmy Cliff - the star of the film, who is naturally well represented on the album. The album contains a plethora of vintage late 60's and early 70's reggae gems like the original version of "Rivers Of Babylon" by the Melodians, the Maytals great "Sweet And Dandy" and "Pressure Drop" and Desmond Decker's "Shanty Town". Naturally Jimmy Cliff has the lion's share of the album with classics like "The Harder They Come", "You Can Get It If You Really Want", "Sitting In Limbo" and one of the greatest songs ever written - the achingly beautiful "Many Rivers To Cross". Oh yeah, brilliant illustrated pop-art cover too. An absolute must for fans of the genre and soundtrack connoisseurs.
