Originally released in 1972, Barnstorm was Walsh's first album after leaving the James Gang. Kenny Passarelli, Joe Vitale, and Joe Walsh are the core band on this album and are also known as Barnstorm.
With this release, Walsh ventured into folk acoustic music with influences by James Taylor and Crosby, Stills & Nash. The ARP Odyssey synthesizer was used for effects on "Mother Says" and "Here We Go".
