Mobile Fidelity is very pleased to bring you Ballads, our third superb John Coltrane title. Originally released in 1962, Ballads was produced by Bob Thiele during various recording sessions in '61 and '62 for the Impulse! label. Ballads was engineered by the legendary Rudy Van Gelder and recorded at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.

Created during Coltrane's 'classic quartet' period, Ballads is considered one of Coltrane's traditional jazz recordings which highlights his classic swing and sensitivity. Down Beat writes that Ballads 'has always been about the celebration of pitch and melody.' And Q Magazine rated it 4-stars, calling it 'a timely reminder of the tenor saxophonist's matchless lyricism and exquisite tone....' On this recording the quartet is made up of Coltrane on tenor sax, McCoy Tyner on piano, Reggie Workman and Jimmy Garrison on bass guitars, and Elvin Jones on drums.

Mobile Fidelity's mastering technology has opened up Ballads' full frequency range and expanded the soundstage for a significant sonic improvement overall. This wonderful Coltrane performance should not to be missed.
