Elusive Disc recommended!

On this tribute to the second wave of Jazz composers from the 50's like Wayne Shorter, Bobby Timmons, Sonny Rollins, and Horace Silver among others, Straight Ahead spotlights John Heard on bass leading a group of outstanding musicians such as Danny Grissett on piano, Lorca Hart on drums, Herman Riley on Sax/flute and Nolan Shaheed on trumpet and flugelhorn. John Heard played in the day, when he was a kid of 17, with Tommy Turrintine, Booker Irvin, Horace Parlan and Roland Kirk and as such when asked about recording iconic tunes like "Soulville", "Ruby My Dear", and "Lester Left Town" among others replied "I ain't afraid of these songs, I'll put together a quintet and we'll put a smile on them again". When you hear what John and company have done, you too will have a smile on your face. And just so you know, that great cover shot is a copy of a silkscreen done by John Heard - a natural artist at home with either of the two arts! This LP was pressed on Classic Record's proprietary 200g Super Vinyl Profile. Mastered by Bernie Grundman, recorded and mixed directly to two track by Scott Sedillo using equipment designed and built by The Chief Electronic Design Engineer at BGM - Beno May.
