John the "Troubadour Folk Singer Blues Guy" Is Back on 180g Vinyl!
2015 Grammy Award Nominee for:
Best Americana Album
Best American Roots Song - "Terms Of My Surrender"
John Hiatt adds another chapter to his storied career with the release of Terms Of My Surrender. Produced by longtime collaborator and Combo member, Doug Lancio, Terms of My Surrender is rooted in the blues. It adds an exciting dynamic to one of America's finest singer-songwriters.
Hiatt, a master lyricist and satirical storyteller, weaves hidden plot twists into fictional tales ranging in topics including redemption, relationships, growing older and surrendering, on his terms. Terms Of My Surrender is musically rooted in acoustic blues, accentuated by Hiatt's soulful, gritty voice, which mirrors the gravity of his reflective lyrics. Though Hiatt initially picked up an electric guitar on day one of recording, producer Lancio challenged him to play acoustic instead, which set the tone and mood for the whole process. Hiatt even plays harmonica on the album, which he hasn't done in several years. They recorded most of the album off the floor as if in a live setting, which was fitting since the band in the studio was Hiatt's exceptional touring band.
Hiatt and his band, The Combo, have gained a reputation for captivating crowds at their live shows as The Tennessean depicts: "He prowls the stage, delivering the bluesy stuff in a whiskey-burn howl, shouting the rock stuff and fronting a formidable band that can turn on a dime, from ballads to bombast." John Hiatt's career as a performer and songwriter has spanned more than 30 years and everyone from Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, BB King, Bonnie Raitt and Iggy Pop has covered his work.
...one of rocks most astute singer-songwriters of the last 40 years" - Los Angeles Times
"This record kind of hooked back up with the John the Troubadour Folk Singer Blues Guy," he says. "I hadnt really been doing that for a while. That feels good. Feels like a kid. And anything you can do to feel like a kid when youre my age, you want to do it. Its a good thing." - John Hiatt
