Karl Richter's famous 1965 recording of Bach's Christmas Oratorio with a quartet of stunning soloists in a 3-LP gatefold. Mastered from original tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl, includes artist photos and liner notes in English and German.
Karl Richter was at the forefront of the Baroque revival of the 1950s and 60s, conducting his Munich Bach Choir and Orchestra in many trailblazing Bach recordings. His popular recording of the joyful, six-part Christmas Oratorio features some of the era's finest soloists, including the legendary Fritz Wunderlich as the Evangelist. On the 1965 recording, "Richter is the ultimate purposeful and charismatic director," said Gramophone in 2014, with the oratorio's final chorus "the finest on disc".
