L'Art du Son Stylus Cleaning Fluid by Martina Schoener: "I spent over ten years developing this stylus cleaner. The reason is simple: even though there are many products on the market, stylus cleaners have frequently been criticized, especially because of their ingredients. They often contain alcohol, and some in the past even included solvents that break down plastic materials. Some substances can even attack the adhesive bond between the diamond and the cantilever and accelerate the curing process of the elastomers in the suspension. This can significantly shorten the lifespan of a cartridge—even though the intention is to actually protect it. My goal was therefore to develop a cleaning solution that avoids these drawbacks. The new Stylus Cleaner from L'Art du Son is the result of this work. It contains no alcohol or solvents but is based on a combination of selected surfactants. To restore the glide performance of the contact area of the stylus, a technically correct cleaning process is necessary. In doing so, baked-on microparticles—such as debris or plastic dust—are reliably loosened and made easy to remove. This is precisely what my stylus cleaner does: it ensures thorough yet gentle cleaning and eliminates a technically relevant problem—namely the reduced glide performance of the stylus that can result from these adhering residues. The sonic improvement is clearly audible and fascinating. It was important to me that the product performs reliably in technical terms as well as having a positive effect on sound quality. With the final formulation, I was able to achieve exactly that. The Stylus Cleaner, regardless of cartridge type—whether Moving Coil, Moving Magnet, or Moving Iron—supports a cleaner, more dynamically stable, and more detailed sound image. There are only two things you need for proper use: a sparing application of the cleaning fluid and a steady hand when handling the delicate stylus assembly. A fine special brush is included in the package. The glass pipette allows you to apply the liquid precisely. A tiny drop is sufficient—there is no need to drown the stylus. Use the moistened brush hairs to gently stroke the stylus from back to front along the cantilever. This is enough to remove deposits and baked-on residues from the diamond surface. If you wish, you can use the dry side of the double-ended brush to wipe over it again. If you follow these instructions, the contents of the 17-ml bottle will last for many hundreds of applications. You can easily clean the brush under running water and, if needed, wipe the white bristles with a clean microfiber cloth."
