For her first major-label album (and first of two back-to-back Gold-selling albums), singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb expanded on the massive success of her ubiquitous hit "Stay (I Missed You)." As the first unsigned artist to hit Number One on the Billboard Hot 100, Loeb turned "Stay" into the linchpin of the culture-shifting soundtrack for Ben Stiller's Reality Bites (the album made Rolling Stone's 40 Best Records of 1994).
But Tails, which arrived after a deeply competitive bidding war for the musician, is far more than the standout track, as distorted guitars, lush orchestrations, and acoustic arrangements augment Loeb's folk-rock ambitions into a Nineties generational touchstone. With Tails, Loeb, who co-produced the album with Juan Patiño, bolstered the range of production from her previous releases, effortlessly shifting from the spacious driving rock of "Taffy" to the tender minimalism of "Sandalwood."
"Loeb has an undeniable gift for creating an air of intimacy and vulnerability," Entertainment Weekly wrote of the album upon its release. "Which may well be enough for 'Stay' fans looking for additional doses of contemplative melancholy."
This 1LP release comes on pink vinyl.
